As we begin our departure from the cold, Wintery months and the remnants of Christmas are left in our wake, this timely changing of seasons is sign-posted each year by one of the most widely-celebrated international holidays; St. Patrick’s Day.
Falling on March 17th across a host of countries, St. Patrick’s Day not only signifies a call for historic celebration and remembrance, but also a social soiree that brings us all together amidst music and merriment (and Guinness...) as we celebrate these traditions amongst family, friends and peers.
Historically, St. Patrick’s Day was conceived to commemorate the death of the Patron Saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick - a fifth-century Christian missionary, bishop and national apostle. Families and friends all across Ireland would convene to attend church in the morning with the dancing, drinking and feasting following later in the day as the Lenton prohibitions on meat were temporarily lifted to sanction these national festivities, allowing dinner plates across the country to be filled with the traditional Irish bacon and cabbage.
The current landscape across the world prevents us from celebrating this national holiday in the way we would usually like and, as we continue to make our collective safety our priority, the pubs and bars across the world that would normally be packed full of partying patrons are left deserted and derelict as we look for other, unique ways to partake in the holiday, so, our question to you is: how did you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year?
